FIRE! That single word conjures up in our mind images of destruction and loss. There are few events in life that can be more threatening and traumatizing. Most fires start silently, without a warning. An electrical short, a failing appliance, a forgotten cooking pan left on the stove over a live flame. Sometimes a fire is the result of a DIY soldering job gone awry, a candle, a BBQ gone wrong or even lightning striking a roof. The end result is almost always the same; a sudden and dramatic loss of something and even someone we hold dear to our hearts.
Wildfires are on the rise
If accidental fires were not enough to worry us sick, according to the National Fire Protection Association, a structure fire is reported every 65 seconds. Weather pattern changes such as wetter winters and dryer summers are creating ideal conditions that put many residential areas at higher risk for wildfires.
How Do You Clean and Repair Fire Damage?
Prompt action is critical. The first 24 to 48 hours after a fire can determine the extent of structural and damage that will need to be mitigated and restored. An effective emergency plan includes stabilizing the structure first. This will expedite the recovery process. The soot and smoke damage that is produced when fires are extinguished accelerate the deterioration and corrosion of building materials and of the structure’s contents. To make things worse, fires are extinguished with dry chemicals and/or water. The fire damage restoration process includes mitigating the damage, cleaning up smoke damage, and performing restoration as quickly as possible after the damage first occurs.
Damage to Contents
Beyond the visible structural damage, contents inside the structure must be evaluated for recovery based on a number of factors, which include:
Replacement cost vs. restoration cost
Effect of smoke and heat
Loss of use
Loss of value
Decreased life expectancy
Xtreme Controls restoration services include emergency board-up, demolition, soot removal, thermal deodorization to mitigate smoke damage and complete reconstruction of the damaged structure. We have strategic partnerships with several well-regarded contents-restoration and renovations companies, and can handle end-to-end customer service coordination with them.
